‘Fool’s Day’ is a summery jaunt through a day in the life of Mr. Damon Albarn, documenting how he spent 1st April (turns out he didn’t really do all that much).

I queued up for five hours to guarantee my copy, but thanks to the wonders of the internet, you can listen to it by clicking below. Or visit blur.co.uk to download in .mp3 or lossless .wav.

Neue, the online type and cities based magazine, are accepting entries for their next city – Berlin. If you are unfamiliar with Neue, basically they invite people to do a typographic representation of the name of a city to go in their online collection.

The format of your entry must be 396 x 559 px (portrait) and 72 dpi and must include the name of the City (Berlin). For more specifications and how to enter click here.

What is great about this is the amount of different interpretations and styles of the entries, it is a great place to find new designers.

Here are some nice entries for the last city, Barcelona.

Continuing the vinyl theme, me and a few chums were discussing the importance of vinyl records recently, and disputing whether a physical record collection is really necessary when you can have terabytes of music on a single hard drive. This film expresses my feeling towards record collecting that so many others share. It is a beautifully shot documentary by Sean Dunne – a story of one mans passion for records.

“Beatmakers including Daedelus and J.Rocc turn old vinyl into new music in this mini doc directed by Bryan Younce and Mark McNeill.”

For a limited time, Pitchfork TV (Link) are showing this short documentary that takes 4 well known beat-demons and sets them the challenge of making a new song from records bought from a thrift store. They talk you through their record choices and briefly show how they individually sample records. Although you never hear the songs in their entirety, the pay-off is still very nice. This will really make you want to start sampling records. You can buy the film and the songs here.

*** Sorry if you read this too late, the video is only available for a short period.

I never realized how much I wanted a tattoo of a shark in a top hat and tie until I saw the work of Madrid based tattoo artist Deno. His illustrations use a small colour palate which creates a very stylistic and graphic style.
Digital Folklore is the title of a book, released last November by Olia Lialina & Dragan Espenschied. The book documents and reflects on the web 1.0 DIY movement and the aesthetics associated with it.

The Geocities-esque design by Manuel Bürger compliments the book’s message without making reading an overpowering eye-melting ordeal, as can often happen with faux 90s web-pages.
